Staying Sharp // Proverbs 27:17
Proverbs 27:17 (NIV) | As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
We need each other. The Proverbs contain quite a few lessons of wisdom that we simply can’t exist in total isolation. Whether we need someone to keep warm, help us when we fall, or stay sharp, we need others. I like to think of it in terms of support and accountability. We need people we trust and allow them to speak truth into our lives. Let’s face it, it’s never all that easy when someone confronts us with something we’re doing incorrectly. That discipline, though, helps us get better. Thinking of a blade made out of iron, it is the friction that sharpens it. Without the friction, the blade becomes dull. When that happens, it becomes dangerous to use or ineffective. People are the same way. We need someone to help support us when we struggle and hold us accountable, so our struggles don’t become our undoing. Who do you have in your life that you trust to keep you sharp? Who do you allow to speak truth into your life, and hard truth at that?
