Shine // Matthew 5:14

Light is one of the primary ways we understand Jesus’ work and role in the world. John 1:4-5 shows that Jesus is the light of the world that overcomes the darkness. Later, in John 8:12, we see Jesus say, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” He did not want to be the sole source of light in this world, so God chose to share that task with you and me. This is precisely what we see in today’s verse from Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden.” Isn’t it awesome that Jesus shares this task with us? Yes, it can be intimidating at times, but when we lift that light high in our lives, it radiates the goodness of God in places we might not believe and could hardly imagine. Are you ready to shine?
