Pentecost Sunday // Acts 1:8

Acts 1:8 (NLT) | “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Today is Pentecost, the day we remember the Holy Spirit descending upon Jesus’ disciples and fulfilling the Lord’s promise to send our Helper. The word, Pentecost, comes from the Greek word meaning, fifty. This is because Pentecost is fifty days (seven Sundays) after Easter. The coming of the Holy Spirit is awesome, because whereas Jesus could only physically be in one place at a time, the Holy Spirit is able to fill every single person who believes. The Holy Spirit isn’t divided amongst people — meaning we all get a little less the more people come to Christ — but multiples the powerful presence of God throughout creation. And the purpose? As we see in the latter part of Acts 1:8, to be Jesus’ witnesses to the ends of the earth. If you have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior of your life, God sends the Holy Spirit to live within you, filling you with His unrivaled power. Jesus wants you to take His message of salvation through the forgiveness of sins to the ends of the earth beginning right here in your own backyard. So tap into that power and share the goodness of God wherever you go and with whomever you meet. Let that power settle on you from on high and surge through you from to top of your head to the tips of your toes.
