On Faith // Hebrews 11:1

Today’s verse is known as the biblical definition of faith. To put it in a grossly oversimplified manner, faith is like knowing a chair will hold you when you go to sit in it. You don’t really give it any thought. You just sit down, right? I think about my recliner at home and how my sitting in it isn’t like sitting in other favorite places like my desk chair, the bleachers at a stadium, or even in my car. There is a certain comfort that I find in my chair that none other matches; not even Tiffany’s recliner which is technically nicer. That helps me think of the assurance that accompanies the confidence. Your faith life is kinda like that. There is a distinct comfort that comes in knowing what is there will hold you in a way nothing else will. So let’s move this into your relationship with the Lord. Faith is knowing that God is real and at work in your life even when you might not be able to see it or feel it in the moment. It is more than a feeling, or even knowledge that surpasses what you can experience with your senses. It brings a conviction that helps you keep moving, even if life is so figuratively foggy you cannot see anything else around you. My hope for you as we start the day is that you will find and experience the confidence and assurance that God is real, loves you, and has a plan for your life. Some of it might be hard to see and sense but trust it all the same. Do that, and in the words of 2 Corinthians 5:7, “Walk by faith, not sight.”
