Live in Full Devotion // Ephesians 5:1-2

Let’s read today’s verse in full context, because it’s awesome!

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love,
just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”

The imagery harkens back to the sacrifice system primarily in the Old Testament. The Apostle Paul wrote that Jesus was the sacrifice offered up by God to fulfill the wrath we cause by our sinfulness and to pay the penalty for our waywardness. Jesus is the perfect, sinless, and spotless gift of God to us and for us. Jesus, therefore, becomes the model for how we are to live. Paul also wrote in Romans 12:1 that we are “offer [our] bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is [our] true and proper worship.” This gets down to the major and minor things alike that we do in life. God wants them all. In other words, there is no task too great, or chore too small, to be given in full devotion to the Lord. So, as we embark on a new day, let’s walk in the footsteps of Jesus, the way of love, and the One who showed us we can do all things for Him in a way that will change the world, beginning with our very own lives.
