Jesus the Gentleman // Revelation 3:20
Revelation 3:20 (NIV) | Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
Jesus wants to be welcomed into your heart, but He won’t impose. Jesus is a gentleman. Picture the image He gave when He spoke the words we know as Revelation 3:20. He stands at the door to our heart and knocks…not to beat down the door, but to get your attention. You can almost picture the people on the other side of the door asking, “Who is it?” Then Jesus said that He will come in and share a meal with anyone who opens the door and welcomes Him inside. Why a meal? Well, fellowship for starters. I once read that gravy is the grout of grace; in other words, it is time sitting together at a meal where we share, listen, and learn. But there is another neat nugget, too, which is that sharing a meal is a sign of reconciliation in the culture. That means that Jesus willingly coming in to meet and eat with us is Him saying He wants to reconcile with us; bury the proverbial hatchet caused by sin in our lives; and move forward with a restored relationship. Take note that Jesus is taking the initiative, but our Gentleman Jesus wants you to answer and welcome Him in. Will you?
