Getting Right // 2 Chronicles 7:14
Today’s verse is one I see quoted a good bit these days. Contextually, it is important to know this promise is specific to Solomon and the people of the Holy Land at the Temple’s dedication. God said the people would always be His, though there would be times He would remove His hand of protection and provision as a result of their sin (2 Chronicles 7:13, Romans 1:24). Though the context doesn’t specifically apply to us today here in the USA, I think there is a lot of hope we can find in the message. God wants all of us to acknowledge the sin in our lives as we turn from our worn-out, burned-out way of living to get back into His will. The sins of omission and commission alike impact each other, as well as all of creation. God promised then, and promises still, to hear our prayers and heal us from the ground up. There is no doubt our culture is wretchedly sick, so may we turn back to God, pray for His help, and anticipate His healing, doing our part to help make it happen. In the meantime, let us not forget that even creation itself longs with groaning for everything to be made right (Romans 8:22). This world is not our home, and thanks to Jesus, our citizenship has been transferred to heaven as we await Him to return and set everything right (Philippians 3:20).
