Flickering Faith
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
I took Yoshi dog out early this morning for a predawn walk. I was amazed at how beautifully the frost glittered on the dormant Bermuda grass as a local streetlight cast its glow. I spent a few minutes with the Lord going over a heaviness in my heart as it appears our oldest cat, Sophie, is prepping for her journey across the rainbow bridge. I reminisced over the near sixteen years of snuggles and purrs we’ve shared, and expressed gratitude for the ability to be her daddy. I came inside then saw today’s verse, and it was just what I needed. Maybe this piece of wisdom from scripture will help you with whatever you are walking through today, too: rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks. If you find yourself walking in darkness, take heart, because the light still shines. It might appear as a glimmer at first, but it shines brilliantly still. If you’re walking through a bright time in your life right now, this biblical message is equally important, too. Why? Because God is with you in the good days and not-so-good days. God cares about your cheers and tears, regardless how they might measure up on someone else’s scale. God also wants you to use your life to help cast a hopeful glow for everyone with whom you come in contact. So make time today to do what God asks: rejoice in God’s presence with you; pray for everything regardless if it’s hopeful, helpful, or harmful; and give thanks for your ability to radiate Jesus light wherever you go. After all, your very presence might help a cold and dormant life begin to flicker in faith for a Son rise like no other.
