Be Humble Day // Matthew 23:12
Jesus said, “For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted” (NIV). I like the line attributed to CS Lewis that humility isn’t thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less. The point being that the more we try to puff up ourselves, the more deflated we become when we recognize that the world does not revolve around us. That’s a tough lesson to learn and echoes how many say true humility is the most difficult virtue to attain, because once you think you have, it is then you must realize how far you have to go. In God’s kingdom, greatness isn’t about climbing ladders for status, it’s about lowering yourself in service. The path to being “exalted” runs through humility, not arrogance. Sure, it might feel counterintuitive, but is the essence of James 4:6, ““God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”
