At-One-Ment // Romans 3:25

Let’s read today’s verse in its broader context, along with verse 26, “ God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus” (NIV). I think it’s cool to see the word, atonement, because it is the only theological word rooted in English. It literally means that we are made “at one” with God when we in faith accept Jesus’ sacrifice. This is God’s work for us, not anything we do. After all, as Jesus said in John 6:29, the only work we have to do is believe in the Him, the One God sent to die for our sins and receive God’s wrath so we can be made one with the Lord.
