The King // Zechariah 14:9

Today’s verse comes from a powerful prophecy about the time when God will rule over the whole earth as king. Please note this isn’t just as a king, but THE KING…the King of kings, in fact. If you read this verse in its context (click here to read Zechariah 14) you’ll see two major ways God will reign: (1) as true light, even during the night and other times of darkness, and (2) as the living water that flows continuously. Both of these connect to declarations of Jesus when He said, “I am the Light of the World” (John 8:12) and referee to Himself as the One from whom living water flows (John 7:38). Friends, these both speak to realities we need when hard times come. We need light to show the way, as well as water to quench our thirst and cleanse us. This light and water are gifts from God to you. Typically a king is all about what his subjects can bring to him, but not in God’s case. No, the King of kings is all about what life can bring to you. Once it flows to you, it must flow to another. So with whom can you share the light of the world and living water? It will illuminate and determine your path. May it be so today and every day!
