Your Refuge // Nahum 1:7
Nahum 1:7 (NIV) | The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him….
Do you have a beloved place you like to turn when you find yourself in trouble? One of my favorite places is what I refer to as my cocoon. My cocoon is in my bed, completely surrounded by pillows, with the covers up over my head. I’ve had many a moving prayer there, shed an ocean of tears, gone on some imaginary adventures, rested, as well as tossed and turned with angst-ridden insomnia. That’s a place I know I can comfortably retreat, is always there, it’s just for me, and a place where I have felt God’s presence. The idea of God’s presence is what buttresses the meaning of today’s verse from Nahum 1:7. The prophet discusses the severity of God against His foes, but also describes the sanctuary of God for His family. The Lord wants you to retreat to Him in a place that is unique to you, snug and secure. He cares for you and longs to show you that no enemy can stand against you when you are in Him. This brings to mind the soaring promise of Romans 8:38-39 that nothing can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus. May God’s loving presence be the refuge into which you retreat, find relief, and recover your soul to keep on keeping on in the hope of the Lord.
