Yearning for New // Ecclesiastes 3:11

Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV) | He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

Happy New Year’s Eve! I hope you have plans for a safe and festive ending to 2023 and start to 2024. Our verse for this last day of 2023 tells us that God made everything beautiful in its time. There were obvious highs and lows of the year, but we see that God can make this something special as we acknowledge how His fingerprints are all over everything. This pulls me to reflect on an oft-used verse that all things work together for good for those who love the Lord (Romans 8:28). As we think about how God makes everything beautiful in its time, may we also consider the second part of today’s verse and how God set eternity in the human heart. I want to close my last writing of this year with a famous CS Lewis quote, “If I find in myself desires which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world.” May that yearning for eternity beckon us forward into the New Year as we find ourselves one day closer to our final union with Christ.
