Why? // Psalm 42:11

Psalm 42:11 (NLT) | Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God!

Have you ever asked yourself the questions posed in today’s verse? Maybe even an abbreviated version by just asking, “Why?” I know I sure have! I’ve pondered those questions when I knew why I was down as well as the times I was down and didn’t know why. It typically comes from focusing too much on our circumstances, creating a loss of perspective. As I mentioned yesterday, our suffering can cause us to feel isolated. There is power, though, in putting our hope in God as opposed to our circumstances. God’s eternal perspective can help keep you grounded in the fact that the worst thing that happens to you can never be the last thing that happens to you. That’s why, in the words of the psalmist, you can know you will be able praise Him again. So, if you’re suffering right now, raise your gaze from your circumstances to Christ. He is your Savior and your God…the One who brings you godly comfort and reminds you He is with us all until the end of the age (Matthew 28:20)!
