Who Is In The Details? // Colossians 3:17

Colossians 3:17 (NIV) | And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Do you ever get lost in the details? I can, though I strive to zoom out in life as much as possible so I do not miss the proverbial forest for the trees. I try, but don’t always succeed. There is victory in trying, though, because of what we see in today’s verse. We are called to do everything in the name of Jesus. I like how The Message renders this same verse: “Let every detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.” We see from that paraphrase that our words, actions, and whatever should all be dedicated to pointing people to Jesus. So what does that have to do with the details in living? Well, I think people can get so caught up in trying to do BIG things for God that they miss the little things that can — and do — make a major difference in life. Think about how it feels when a neighbor greets you or waves; when someone holds a door for you or lets you into traffic; what about in those times maybe you have your arms full and drop something then they help you pick it up, or someone sends something as simple as a text, card, or encouraging words to lift your spirits. There is an old idiom that says the devil is in the details. I think that can be true when we suffer from analysis paralysis, but I also know there is no place we can flee where God will not meet us (Psalm 139:7-12), so we have a task to take Jesus to those places where people think they could never find Him. Are you up for that job? I pray so and you commit your life to make sure others can see that GOD is in the details, too!
