We Are Awed // Exodus 15:11

I was in a gathering the other day where someone prayed and began with these words, “We are awed….” I don’t remember the next little bit of the prayer, because I was trying to discern what it was this person meant. You see, what I heard was, “We are odd…” I eventually figured it out, but was left considering why my brain heard “odd” instead of “awed.” The reality is both are applicable. The world considers people of faith to be odd, backwards, out of touch. The oddity of it has me grapple with the nature of faith and how much peace it brings me to know God is in control. I can’t help but ponder that in terms of the book that says “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be Atheist” (Geisler and Turek). The reality is we all worship something…it’s how God designed the human heart. When I think about all that God has done, is, and promises to do, I am indeed left in awe and can worship none other than Him. There is no one and nothing like the Lord God. His majesty, holiness, and awesomeness humbles and inspires. So, if you find yourself feeling “odd” today because of your faith, turn that around and be awed! God has indeed “made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end” (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Let’s celebrate and share that together.
