Walking in the True Light // John 8:12
Is the Force with you? I hope so since May the 4th is Star Wars Day! In the Star Wars universe, there is a constant struggle between the light side and the dark side of the Force. Characters must choose which path they will follow — one marked by fear, anger, and selfishness, or one marked by hope, courage, and self-sacrifice.
The Bible tells us that this isn’t just a fictional struggle. Jesus describes a very real spiritual reality — a choice between walking in darkness or walking in His light. In John 8:12, Jesus speaks these words “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Contextually, He said that during what is known as the Feast of Tabernacles, a celebration that included lighting large lamps in the temple courts to remember how God guided Israel with light in the wilderness. Against that powerful backdrop, Jesus declared Himself as the true and ultimate Light.
Following Jesus doesn’t mean life suddenly becomes easy. But it does mean we no longer have to stumble through confusion, fear, or guilt alone. His light reveals truth, shows us the right path, and fills us with hope even in dark moments. Which direction are you choosing to follow on this Star Wars Day — the pull of darkness or the guiding light of Christ?
