Walking in the Light // 1 John 1:7

When was the last time you took a walk at night? It’s different, isn’t it? Our senses are heightened because of the threats we cannot see, be they from ne’er-do-wells, animals, terrain, etc. Walking in the light helps remove some of the worries because we can better see our surroundings, those with whom we walk, and the path off into the distance. The light also helps energize us and produce vitamins in our bodies that are really only available when we are in the sun. I also hear that sunlight is the best disinfectant, which certainly is relevant to the entirety of today’s verse: “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” So, we need to walk in the light with other faithful sojourners, aware of the threats surrounding us, and in step with our Saving God who purifies us from sin as well as energizes us for living. May we never think we can walk through this life alone, let alone in perpetual darkness. We need each other and we need Jesus’ saving support. Dear Lord, let it be.
