Wait // Psalm 40:1
Do you like to wait? I’m not keen on it. From waiting on a big trip months down the road to waiting in line at a grocery store, I can get antsy. How ‘bout you? Our immediate gratification culture makes it quite difficult to wait; especially during times of crisis and need.
Today’s verse reminds us how important it is to remain engaged during the times we are to wait. Waiting on God isn’t a passive endeavor, but one that asks us to stay active in the things that draw us closer to God and each other; things like prayer, worship, service, giving, studying, and gathering. Those are activities that keep our focus where it belongs and energies directed to sharing God’s goodness.
The context in which we find today’s verse deals with managing despair. Actively waiting on God can help us manage our own desperate situations or lift up others in theirs. So how can you wait patiently on the Lord today? How can you find your life lifted out of the pit of despair? Who can you help lift from theirs?
