Trust and Faith // Jeremiah 17:7
Jeremiah 17:7 (NIV) | But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.
Today’s verse from Jeremiah comes from a larger section where God told the prophet that trusting in people is folly whereas trusting in God is faith. This can be hard for us because we tend to trust what we can experience with one or more of our five senses. It’s easy for us to put trust in those things, but that isn’t faith. Hebrews 11:1 defined faith as “confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see” (NIV). Things of this world will break down and fail. Trust in the eternal power, presence, knowledge, and wisdom of God will not. Sure, there might be times we struggle to comprehend it all, but such is the life of faith. So, don’t just trust what you can see, smell, hear, taste, or touch…trust in our God who made all, stands above all, yet loves you enough to be your very trust.
