To Remind and Reveal // John 14:26

When was the a last time you encountered a mystery of faith and just knew it to be true? For me it happened quite recently as Tiffany and I made a decision to step out in faith and God revealed a miracle on the very same day that had to have been in the works for weeks. Some might say it was merely a coincidence, but I know better. I am convinced that God is working all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). My past experiences and vision of a future with hope convicts me of such and compels me to live accordingly. Do I always get it right? Nope, not at all. I still try, though, even — and perhaps especially — when I make mistakes.

Today’s verse from John 14:26 are words of Jesus spoken to the disciples as He prepared them for his death, resurrection, and ascension to heaven. He wanted to impress upon them that even though He was leaving, they would not be alone. God planned to send the Holy Spirit (A.KA., the Advocate) to live within all believers to confirm everything Jesus taught, as well as to lead, guide, and direct them into their future ministries. This is still true for Jesus followers today as the Holy Spirit works with the human conscience to convict us when we go wrong. The Holy Spirit also helps work within the soul (remember, the culmination of one’s thoughts, feelings, and actions) to compel us to live for the Lord.

The Holy Spirit is your Advocate. It advocates on your behalf to God for eternity. It also advocates on your behalf with others for the here-and-now. With all due respect to Jiminy Cricket, let the Holy Spirit transform your conscience to be your guide. Then, live your life with others in such a way where you can help guide them to Jesus. The Holy Spirit will remind you of what Jesus taught and reveal the ways you can help make God known in this lost and weary world.
