Thumb Appreciation Day // Leviticus 14:17
I took a pic of my right thumb for today’s Scripture graphic on this Thumb Appreciation Day. I don’t really consider myself a thumb enthusiast, but I admit I love a good đź‘Ťas much as anyone else. The opposable thumb makes it possible for us as people to do an awful lot. We can work, play, and show approval or disapproval by using our thumbs. It’s a good thing that we take a moment to appreciate our thumbs, the God who designed us with them, and see how they might draw us closer to the Lord.
We see in our verse from Leviticus 3:17 that God instructed priests to use their right thumb when applying things like oil during their religious work. The right thumb in particular was chosen because it is considered the “strong side”. As Jesus followers, we are called to know that our strength comes from God. The Apostle Paul encouraged his protegee Timothy “be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:1, NIV). So, on this Thumb Appreciation Day, I hope you’ll take a moment to thank God for the blessing of opposable thumbs, as well as the strength He gives to us all through Jesus.
