The Wage and the Gift

Romans 6:23

Think about what this verse is saying. A wage is something you earn for the work you do. A gift is something given out of generosity and love. When Paul wrote that the wages of sin is death, he is saying that death is what we deserve for the work (sin) we do. And that death doesn’t just refer to the body, it also means the spirit and soul…a total separation from God. But there is a gift — eternal life with God! This gift was paid for by the work Jesus did on the cross. God longs to give you what you cannot earn and do not deserve. This gift fills the separating gap to forge an unbreakable bond. The work was done and Jesus bought you the most precious and personalized gift with the fruit of His labors. Will you accept that gift? Will you open it? Will you put it to use and not just leave it sitting on a shelf or in a drawer?
