The Treasure // Proverbs 2:1-5

The Chinese proverb in the infographic below led me to THE Proverbs. Solomon, the writer of the Proverbs, wrote these words about treasuring God’s Word…

My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. (ESV)

Solomon is pointing us to God’s commandment, which is to love. That is the umbrella under which we come to not just know about God, but know God personally! Putting that knowledge into action with an eye to eternity is the definition of wisdom. Curiosity, learning, and insight inspires a search for God’s hidden treasures…a relationship with God Himself.

Jesus said these words about treasuring the Kingdom of God as recorded in Matthew 13:44, “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field” (ESV). What do you need to turn loose of to fully experience the treasury of God? Is there anything temporary in this world that is holding you back from the glory of eternity? If so, remember that learning is a treasure that follows its owner everywhere. And there is nothing better than learning about God’s love, applying it to your life, and getting to know the Lord in the saving relationship He longs to enjoy with you. Talk about a treasure!
