The Time // Jeremiah 23:5

Jeremiah 23:5 (NLT) | “For the time is coming,” says the Lord, when I will raise up a righteous descendant from King David’s line. He will be a King who rules with wisdom. He will do what is just and right throughout the land.

Do you know what time it is? The concept of time in the Bible is depicted in three basic ways: (1) chronos, or the sequential passing of seconds, minutes, hours, days, etc.; (2) et, or the arrival of an occasion; and (3) kairos, or the decisive moment for choosing. It’s interesting that one can see each concept in today’s verse that points to Jesus, the Messiah’s, birth. Think of it like the seconds ticking off of a countdown prior to blastoff when the heavens would open, and angels declare the message. Or perhaps the predetermined time when Jesus would come, and His message could spread thanks to the size and scope of the Roman Empire. But His arrival and ministry require a decision and a response — will we accept God’s wisdom? Will we love loving mercy and justice as God requires? Will we choose to walk humbly with the Lord wherever He leads? The time when we celebrate the birth of Christ is almost here. His return to take us to heaven is one day closer, too, regardless of when it will arrive on our clock or calendar. So, will you decide to live for Jesus? It’s the time to do so!
