The Struggle is Real // Galatians 5:17

Today is International Tug of War Day. Did you know there is an international federation that oversees the rules of the game and works to promote it as a fun, team building exercise. On top of that, there is a goal to have tug of war added to the Olympics! I for one think there might need to be some added elements to raise the stakes, but I digress.

I think of the spiritual battles we face while contemplating tug of war. Galatians 5:17 says, “For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want” (NIV). Saint Paul is describing that inner struggle we all experience between living for the self, versus living for our Savior. This newly embarked season of Lent is a prime time to hone in on that struggle as we fast from our attachments and return to the heart of God.

If you are experiencing an internal game of tug of war, know you are by no means alone. That struggle is real! So, know you need not fight alone and can trust God to be the anchor of your team. Sync up with Him so you follow the power of faith as opposed to the desires of the flesh.
