The Mindset of Jesus // Philippians 2:5
We’ve explored a common theme with our writings this past week or so, which is about living relationally with God and others. Today’s verse from Philippians 2:5 continues this theme as we see we are to approach these relationships like Jesus. I think it’s a great idea to read this passage in full, so check out Philippians 2:5-8: “Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!“
What jumps out at you? I see Paul address things like how people jockey for popularity and status, looking for ways to take advantage of people, places, and things in order to get ahead. We see that Jesus saw the greatest way to live was in service to God and others. We see that He did this not by exerting His cosmic power, but by putting on the frailty of humanity. He did this obediently, and even gave up His life sacrificially so we can see that is exactly how we are called to live!
What challenges you in a text like this? How does it challenge your human nature? What does it call you to do? However it is you answer that question, do so as the Apostle Paul commended for us all, with the same mindset as Jesus.
