The Light of the World is With YOU // Psalm 23:4

We are continuing our journey through the 23rd Psalm. Today’s verse is one that helped me work through my grief after our daughter, Mia’s death. I cannot help but think of this verse in the King James Version, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”

This verse conjures up all kinds of imagery, doesn’t it? Think about being in a valley with high mountain peaks surrounding you. The heights of the mountains only impress upon you the depth of the valley. The mountains also cast a dark shadow as the peaks block out the sun. The darkness and comparative coolness of the shadows remind you evil is always nearby. But so is the Lord, and there is no need to fear thanks to our Good Shepherd! Jesus also referred to Himself as the Light of the World (John 8:12), bringing a sudden reminder that you cannot have a shadow with a light!

If you feel like you’re in the darkness right now, turn to the light. Know you are not alone. And for that reason, among many others, there’s no need to fear. Yes, the valley of death can feel like hell, but you must remember that hell was conquered and your eternal life secured. Jesus Himself promised to be with us all until the end of the world (Matthew 28:20). So, if you feel like you are walking through hell, keep walking. Don’t stop. Keep crawling, walking, or running to the Light. There you will find it isn’t just a place, but a person…our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

To Him be the glory, now and forever. Amen!
