The Ides of March: When Trust Is Broken // Psalm 41:9

On the Ides of March, Julius Caesar was betrayed by those he trusted most. History remembers the shock of it—but many of us know that shock personally. Jesus does too. We read about this in Psalm 41:9 which foreshadows Jesus’ own betrayal by Judas: “Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me.” Betrayal cuts deep because trust is sacred. It shakes our confidence and tempts us toward bitterness. Yet Christ was betrayed—and chose forgiveness over revenge, surrender over retaliation. The Ides of March reminds us that broken trust is not the end of the story. God is faithful even when people are not. He sees the wound. He holds the hurt. And He invites us to place our trust where it cannot be shattered.
