God’s How and Why // Psalm 32:8

How do you see this message that He will teach and instruct as different ideas? The heart of this in the Biblical languages is the verb, “to teach,” carries with it religious and philosophical connotations. The meaning of, “to instruct,” is more focused like in aiming; in fact, the Hebrew word for instruction is an archery term which means to take aim. So, as we break it down, we see that God wants to teach us not just how to aim for Him in life, but why we should! Then, we see that God will counsel us under His watchful eye. Other translations use the English verb, “to guide.” This helps us know that God comes alongside us to help us know both the how and the why as we seek to live for Him. So, be teachable. Let God show you how to aim for Him, but also why it’s important. Let’s face it, we are all headed in some direction…we best make sure it is the Lord’s!
