The Christian Conjunction // Matthew 6:33

Today’s verse is one of my life verses. I love the idea that Jesus said we need to seek God’s kingdom first and then everything seems to fall into place. This is so important because I tend to seek my desires first, and when it all seems to fall apart, then I turn to God. Ouch. Can you relate? This is part of our human nature. We want to think we have all we need to make it in the world. That type of thinking pushes God to a last resort as opposed to our first option. The operative piece of this verse though is found in the conjunction, and. Jesus said we are to seek God’s kingdom first, AND His righteousness, AND all the things will be given as well. This means God wants us not just to seek the Lord’s stuff, but to grow to become more like Him. That’s an altogether different mindset, isn’t it? So, as we kick off today, let’s remember that being part of God’s kingdom requires us to think and behave from the starting point of a godly worldview. Then, everything else has a way of falling into place.
