The Almighty’s Armor // Ephesians 6:11

I had one of the teenagers at church ask me a while back about a lesson I have learned that I wish I knew when I was their age. I thought for a moment and told them that evil is real. I did not fully understand the schemes of the devil, as it is stated in today’s verse, when I was younger, but now I realize how serious evil is. CS Lewis once wrote, “There is no neutral ground in the universe. Every square inch, every split second is claimed by God, and counterclaimed by Satan.” That quote summarizes my feelings quite well.

The devil is constantly scheming in an attempt to disparage God and discourage people from following Jesus. The Apostle Paul wrote a powerful statement about how the Armor of God is available to for those who choose Christ (see Ephesians 6:10-20). Paul concluded this section by acknowledging he was in chains for his faith and asking for the church to pray for him so he may continue to profess Jesus and to do so boldly. That, my friends, is what we need in the face of evil and the devil’s schemes: the faith to face the threats and fear boldly. You can stand when you feel like cowering by trusting in God’s truth, righteousness, readiness, peace, faith, and God’s Word which contains all things necessary for salvation.

So, if you find yourself heading into some trials today, pray as you suit up in the Almighty’s Armor. The devil is scheming, but he is also already beaten. Don’t let him take you down, too.
