Temptation // 1 Corinthians 10:13
What comes to mind when you read today’s verse? Honestly, this is a verse that is frequently misquoted and misunderstood to mean, “God will not put on you more than you can handle.” That is NOT what this verse means. As I mentioned in yesterday’s writing, God cannot have anything to do with evil; therefore, He will not put anything like that on you. On the other hand, we frequently experience things in life that are far more than we can handle. Verse 12 gives us a clue as to the origin of such problems when Paul wrote, “If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall.” The bottom line when connecting verses 12 and 13 is the reality that we are often most susceptible to temptation when we feel like we’re strong and impervious to it. How does that strike you? The good news comes at the end of verse 13 as Paul wrote that God will always give you a way out. That way out is none other than Jesus Christ! Jesus came to give us His strength when we’re weak; to give us His forgiveness when we fail; to give us His mercy to redeem us; and to give us His grace to restore us. Friends, God is faithful! May we lean into that and bask in God’s glory always…even in the times when we feel strong and realize quickly thereafter how weak we really are without the hope and help of Jesus.
