Sticky Faith

Galatians 3:27

One of our Hope Church Preschool kids gave me a true belly laugh yesterday. I wore a Spider-Man undershirt in anticipation for seeing the new movie. I stepped out of my office and this little boy stopped in his tracks with mouth agape, saying in a tone of surprised wonder, “You’re Spider-Man…!” I laughed, and told I was just his friendly neighborhood Pastor Mark, but I really like Spider-Man. It’s cute how a tee-shirt could transport this child, engage his imagination, and help him see me as someone else.

It got me thinking about living a life of faith. Galatians 3:27 says, “All of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ” (CEB). The idea here is that the way we carry ourselves helps show others the presence of God in Christ Jesus. Hopefully your faith is just as obvious as the clothes you wear to help make Jesus’ love stick to everyone with whom you come in contact. As today’s verse indicates, we should wear Jesus like a favorite article of clothing…something comfortable, well fitting, and reveals what’s truly important to you. It reminds me of another wonderful Bible verse, “And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it” (Colossians 3:14, MSG).

Are you living in such a way where your faith in Jesus is sticky for others? Can you swing into the presence of those God has given you to do life with so they sense that He is right there with them? I sure hope so. I know I want my life to be entangled in a web of grace and mercy so I can show the saving strength of God’s love for all.

The closer we get to Christmas, the more open people are to receiving this Good News. So let’s get to it! Let’s go show the world how God appears in a flash of light, arriving just in time to show us the sacrificial love of our Savior Jesus.
