Spiritual Sharing // Luke 12:12

Today is a day when we are to make the most of our conversations. This is designed to help us listen thoroughly and keep the other person in mind when we are formulating a response. All too often we approach conversations like they are one-way streets. That’s not a conversation, that’s a monologue. We read in Ecclesiastes 5:2 about letting our words be few, meaning we need not be hasty in coming up with a reply. From a spiritual point of view, we need to trust God’s Holy Spirit to lead us in our conversations so we can say things that truly matter in a way that helps us connect God’s goodness to our human frailties. Luke 12:12 gives wisdom from Jesus to trust the Holy Spirit when we are in conversations, and particularly challenging ones. Making sure our input is helpful to the various conversations we hold is a great way to prove to the person we’re talking to that they are as important — if not more so — than anything we have to say. So, on this International Day of Mastering Conversations that Matter, let’s remember the critical components of Holy Spirit in them all. Trusting God to give us the words to say when they’re needed is a perfect way to honor a person who matters by seasoning all of our speech with salt.
