Spiritual Hindsight is 20/20 // Psalm 139:16
Psalm 139:16 (NLT) | You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
I ran across a quote the other day that says, “Life can only be understood backwards but must be lived forwards” (Bessie Coleman). That really got me thinking about life and what I’ve come to understand how “spiritual hindsight is 20/20”. It’s frequently hard to understand how and why certain things happen; after all, we must live in faith that God is with us even when that’s hard to perceive. When you look in retrospect, however, you can probably see how God’s fingerprints are all over you and/or a situation. I like to think in terms of God’s fingerprints, because that encourages me to remember I am always in God’s firm grasp despite what may occur. When I think of this in terms of today’s verse from Psalm 139:16, I am called to commit (and recommit!) my life to living forward for the Lord. Then, when I emerge from the tough times, it’s far easier to see how God never let me go.
Are you going through a tough time right now? Go with God! Have you recently come through some troubles, look back and see how God was with you. I have found that spiritual hindsight is indeed 20/20. Looking for God along the difficult road can help bring clarity to whatever you face each and every day.
