Shouldering the Burden // Isaiah 9:6
Well, it’s almost Election Day. Are you as ready for the ads to stop as I am? It’s been quite the contentious season, and I fear it will only increase over the next few days before the dust settles. I’ll be honest that I’ve felt anxiety about the choices we have, but today’s verse reminds me of a very important point: the Bible says the government is on God’s shoulders, not mine. I already voted, and in so doing, did my part so I can I trust God with what happens next. I hope we all can do that in the spirit of what John Wesley wrote and encouraged people to do…
1. To vote, without fee or reward, for the person they judged most worthy;
2. To speak no evil of the person they voted against; and
3. To take care their spirits were not sharpened against those that voted on the other side.
Whether or not you voted already or plan to do so, heed the advice of Scripture and Wesley. Do you part, strive for the common good, and keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. He is the One shouldering the burden so you and I do not need to.
