Shine! // Matthew 5:16

Today’s verse is one of my absolute favorites! The idea behind it is Jesus shares His eternal light with us so we can shine it for others. You know that a single light, even from something as small as a candle, can illuminate a dark room. The same is true in our world. Jesus wants to deploy you into the places where only you can go, to make an impact only you can make, when you live a life illuminated with His love. You can help open others up to the goodness of God when you commit to doing so. I love how The Message Version renders this section by saying the light we shine can help bring out the God colors in the world. Think about it like the scene in “The Wizard of Oz” when Dorothy emerged from her black-and-white Kansas farmhouse into the brilliantly colored Munchkin Land. The death and decay in this world can cause us to all feel like we’re living in a drab environment. We aren’t…at least not entirely. God colors are everywhere, they just need to be put on display by those who shine Jesus light. The good things you do can help people see that God is real, He loves us, and has a purpose for us all. Let’s go shine for Jesus today!
