Shine Jesus’ Light! // Matthew 5:16
Today is VBS Sunday at Hope Church! We are bringing our recent STELLAR journey to a close where we helped our children learn about the light and love of God in Jesus Christ. The core verse for this week came from Matthew 5:16 where Jesus told those gathered to hear His Sermon on the Mount about the importance of shining for God. We know from elsewhere in the Scripture that Jesus Himself is light personified and He shares His light for us. That really means when we are called to shine for Him, it isn’t our light, but Jesus’ light that we reflect to the world around us.
Here are the daily points the children learned through Bible stories, skits, music, games, crafts, and other activities:
1) When life feels dark, shine Jesus’ light!
2) When people don’t get along, shine Jesus’ light!
3) When good things happen, shine Jesus’ light!
4) When people are sad, shine Jesus’ light!
Those are good reminders for all of us. In good times and not-so-good times, we are called to shine the light of Jesus. When we do, we will follow the example of Jesus and advice of the Apostle Paul from Philippians 2:14-16a, “Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life.”
May we all shine Jesus’ light!
