Serve // Matthew 20:28
One of the things people tend to draw a sense of importance from is the number of people they have to do things for them. Jesus certainly didn’t take that mindset into His position! Philippians 2:6-7 states this about Jesus: “Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.” Christ Himself had all the rights to demand people do things for Him, but that wasn’t in His heart; rather, He chose to come to us and model a life of service. This is precisely why He said that the greatest are those who serve (Luke 22:26) and gave us an example for us to do likewise (John 13:15). Importance is not found in the numbers of people that serve you, but ways you can serve other people. Let’s follow Jesus’ example and find the beautiful power in the call to serve.
