Seek God // Psalm 27:4
Psalm 27:4 (NIV) | One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.
I remember playing hide-and-seek in my childhood. It was a summer tradition in the neighborhood where I was raised. I was always looking for the perfect hiding place, and once I found it, I tried emerging and sneaking to home base before I was found to keep my hiding place secret. That’s what comes to mind when I read about the one thing King David sought. He wanted to know that he was secure in his home base, and he knew where he was most secure. We do not need the temple for worship any longer because we ourselves become the temple for the Holy Spirit when we accept Jesus as Lord of our lives (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). The Holy Spirit then helps us find God’s beauty everywhere. True, there are times it is more difficult to find than others, but God is constantly revealing Himself through His word (Jesus AND the Bible) as well as creation. So, where can you run and hide when you need to be alone with God? Where do you feel closest to Him? Where do you best bask in His beauty? Make sure you go there and seek God in good times and not-so-good times alike.
