Seek God // Isaiah 55:6
Today’s verse comes in a section where God is offering an invitation for relationship. We see Isaiah insert the words for today’s passage amidst God’s holy invitation…
Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near.
Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong.
Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them.
Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously.
Isaiah 55:6 (NLT)
So how do we seek the Lord, especially when the implication is that we must do it while God is near? The first thing to remember is God is everywhere. When we feel distant, He isn’t who moved. Recognizing that God is always near helps us turn back to the Lord and seek to restore that relationship; the fancy word for that turning back to God is, repentance. Then, as we read in Jeremiah 29:13, find assurance in the words that “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (NIV). It comes down to seeking God with our whole heart, acknowledging when we’ve strayed, believing God is always near, confessing our sinful ways, and deciding to live for Him again. God has eternal patience and will always welcome you back home to His heart. For as Isaiah said, God will forgive and forgive generously!
Seek the Lord, make the turn, and live anew. God will always be there for you.
