Seek God // 1 Chronicles 16:11
Today’s verse hit me anew today: “Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!” The context is a song of praise King David lifted after setting the Ark of the Covenant in its place inside the tent (this was before the Temple was built). David gave thanks to God, acknowledged how God was judge of the people, and how God cared for them, even though they were like outcasts in the land. David brings this praise song to a close by encouraging people to tell their story and how God showed up and out for them. I think this is a great idea for us on the eve of our Independence Day holiday. We need to thank God and acknowledge there are hard parts to our history. God cares for us, judges us, and disciplines us in order to shape us into the image of Jesus. So, as we get ready to celebrate, let’s be honest about our weaknesses, past failures, and how God loves us still. May we proclaim God’s salvation to all the nations as David wrote in verse 24, beginning right here in our own. We begin by seeking God, God’s strength, and God’s presence.
