Screaming for Screaming Sake? // Micah 4:9
It’s Scream Day. The description for today from nationaltoday.com says, “Scream Day, celebrated on April 24, sounds silly at first but the day has its merits. Modern-day hustling has led to a lot of pent-up anxiety and pressure, which we all need a healthy way to channel. While meditation is a go-to way to relax, many psychologists are convinced that there is nothing like good old screaming to let it all out. Releasing built-up frustrations through screaming is surprisingly calming for the brain.”
I’m not so sure screaming is good for me, but maybe I need to try it since I tend to internalize too much. If I scream, I don’t want it to be for screaming sake. How about you? This reminds me of Micah 4:9 where God asked several rhetorical questions the prophet, including, “But why are you now screaming in terror? Have you no king to lead you? Have your wise people all died? Pain has gripped you like a woman in childbirth.” God was calling the people of Israel to remember that He is there, as well as the prophets He deployed to try and lead them back to Him. It seems to me we would do well to remember when we get so flummoxed that God is there and wants to help us through the worst things in life. And even if we must scream like a woman in childbirth, our screams will be temporary and drowned out by a new life we are called to steward.
So, on this Scream Day, I hope you will cry out to God if you need to…don’t just scream for screaming sake. Know you have a Lord who has a plan for you, including new life for you when you put your trust in Him.
