Ruth’s Song // Ruth 1:16
The Book of Ruth in the Old Testament is beautiful. It is a story of loyalty and how God turns tragedy to triumph and despair into joy. Our verse from today comes from a slightly larger section where Ruth expresses her determination to stay with her mother-in-law, Naomi. Check out Ruth 1:16-17, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me” (NIV). We all need these messages to prove to us we are not alone. God Himself issued that promise long before Ruth and Naomi when He said to Joshua, “No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Joshua 1:5, NIV). Just as it was true for Moses and Joshua, Naomi and Ruth, it is true for you and me, today. May that song fill your heart and God’s Spirit fills your lungs, enabling you to sing praises to the One who is with us all. Always!
