Rise & Shine

Isaiah 60:1

Great verse for a Monday morning, huh? If you happened to watch the short devotional video from the YouVersion Bible app for this verse on Thursday, you heard that the word for shine in the original Hebrew means to bring order out of chaos. I couldn’t help but chuckle, because our family took down our Christmas decorations on Thursday, reclaiming the form our living room takes on about 90% of the year. I mentioned to Tiffany and Ethan that I love the tree and lights in December, but I also love how our home looks without it. The transition in between, though, is chaotic; it’s messy, disorganized, requiring work before, during, and after the primary task is complete. Such is life. Today’s verse is a call to action, to get up, get to work, and do our part to bring some order out of the chaos. Yes, there will be messes. Sure, it will feel disorganized. God is leading the way, though, by providing the Light of the World we need to reflect His image back to creation. So let’s get to it! Let’s get up and get out in the world, shining Jesus light, and helping God bring some order to the chaos in the world.
