Remember… // Deuteronomy 31:8

God will never leave you nor forsake you. There have been times when I felt or feared that was the case, but God proved Himself true. I reflect on two different kinds of scenarios when I worry God left or forsook me. The first is when I moved either out ahead of where God wanted me to be and when. The second is when the maturity of my faith and trust was being tested…remember, teachers are always quiet while giving a test.

Moses is the one who uttered the words we have as our verse for the day. He said them just before his death as a way to pass the mantel of leadership to Joshua and encourage the Israelites on their journey to conquer the Promised Land. Moses led the people through many tough days, and he knew difficulties lay ahead. Still, he wanted the people to remember who they were, Whose they were, and how they were to carry on his legacy of leadership into the next phase of their deliverance.

That process is relevant to you and me today even if we aren’t being called to conquer a strange land full of all kinds of threats. Remember who you are. Remember Whose you are. And remember to pass on the legacy of leadership and love provided by the Lord and those who have gone before us. We are to do this, just as Moses issued one of his final charges to the people, as long as we live in the land given us by God (Deut.31:13).
