Remember // 2 Corinthians 9:6

Today’s verse is one that I use fairly frequently when I reflect over giving and generosity. Today, the very first word jumped out at me: remember. It strikes me that we need to remember, but we sure do, don’t we? The fear of not having enough money can be crippling and even motivate us to do things we otherwise would not do. This is one reason why the Bible calls us to remember God’s promises and the law of giving. We know we can’t take it with us, but we can send it ahead, which is why Jesus is recorded as saying we are to store up treasures in heaven: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:19-21, NIV). Jesus wants your heart to be focused on GOD and the eternal hope of heaven, not worried about the things that are here one day and gone the next. So, what can you do today to remember to stay focused on the main thing? Do that, and know when you do, you are paying forward your faith, hope, and love for God and others!
