Rejoice in Change // Luke 1:46-47

Today’s verse picks up right where we left off yesterday, digging more into Mary’s Song. Mary continued by declaring, “my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.” In the midst of unexpected news and an uncertain future, her response is joy rooted in God’s character as opposed to the comfort of her previous circumstances. Saint Luke includes this moment to show us that true joy flows from trusting God’s character and His saving work as opposed to our own comfort and self-centeredness. As we gather for worship on the Sunday before Christmas, Mary’s words invite us to come together with the same posture— to rejoice in a God who keeps His promises, draws near to His people, and brings salvation through the Child born in Bethlehem. Before you walk into worship today, take a quiet moment to ask God to fill your heart with the same deep, steady joy Mary experienced. Let’s also consider how it would it look like for us all to choose joy this Christmas—not because everything is easy, but because God is faithful and present! Like Mary, we might struggle with change, but we can rejoice in it because God is bringing change to the world, beginning right here with us!
