Pushing Purpose // Romans 8:28

We read that all things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose. Amazing promise and truth, huh? Unfortunately, we tend to misunderstand this verse in light of pop psychology. We say things like, “everything happens for a reason,” as a way to make sense of the senseless. Please recognize that God does not, cannot, and will not visit evil on you — that is not in God’s nature. The reality is, though, that bad things still happen to us. So how do we square this? By remembering that it isn’t true that all things happen for a reason, but God can make a reason from everything that happens! This should give hope that even the worst things that happen to you in this fallen world can be used by God to accomplish His purpose in you and creation. So, if you are going through something right now, consider the miraculous things God might be doing to accomplish His goals. It might just be to change your life and then use your life to change the world! God is always pushing purpose, and despite the brokenness of our world, has a divine way of turning our messes into messages and tests into testimonies.
